Local Area

Hickling ChurchHickling is a wonderful village and home to the largest of the Norfolk Broads just half a mile away. From there you can hire boats, go sailing or canoeing, and access the rest of the broads. Stunning blue-flag beaches along the North-Norfolk coast are within easy access (one of which is in the next village), and the now famous seal colony at Horsey beach is only a few miles away.

Hickling Nature Reserve adjacent to the Broad, harbours a spectacular variety of plants and wildlife, and has plenty for visitors to do; bitterns, cranes and swallow-tail butterflies are a particular attraction. The reserve is one of two SSSI areas in Hickling.

Whilst bird-watching by day, many visitors star-gaze at night; Norfolk has some of the darkest night-sky in England. The terrain here is ideal for cycling, and there are nearby cycle hire establishments.

The market-towns of Stalham, North Walsham and Acle are a short distance away. The latter two offer railway connections to Cromer, Sheringham, Great Yarmouth and the historic city of Norwich.
